English: Pedro Messia de la Cerda, Viceroy of New Granada during the rebellion of 1769 Español: Pedro Messía de la Cerda, virrey de Nueva Granada durante la rebelión guajira de 1769. Vivió en Santafé de Bogotá, donde también aparecen algunos familiares como su hijo y su hermana Antonia Gutiérrez. El primer dato que se tiene de este artista es el que proporciona Gabriel Giraldo Jaramillo, quien escribió: “el 1º de febrero de 1750 se colocó en la iglesia de San Juan de Dios el primero de la serie de 26 cuadros que sobre la vida del santo titular le encomendara Fray Juan Antonio de Guzmán”. Este pintor cultivó el estilo rococó. Su importancia en el ámbito de Santafé de Bogotá puede deducirse por el número de obras que ejecutó y por los retratos que pintó, entre los cuales figuran los personajes más importantes de la sociedad santafereña. Se singularizó por el empleo de numerosos detalles decorativos y la exactitud con la que detalla la indumentaria de los modelos, en la que destacó: las joyas, las condecoraciones, los velos, los encajes, los bordados, las pelucas, los bastones de mando, etc. En su taller se formaron algunos pintores de la época, entre ellos el maestro Pedro Antonio García (1744-1814). La cultura barroca es gestual. El gesto complementaba la comunicación visual con gestos de oralidad, de modo que las pinturas “hablaban”. La siguiente información trata de reconstruir la cultura gestual quirológica y quironómica a partir de los tratados y de las frecuencias gestuales en la pintura colonial. |
