Summary
[edit]DescriptionPeal panel, sallies and angel - geograph.org.uk - 1630155.jpg |
English: Peal panel, sallies and angel The bells are rung from ground level at the west end of the nave, not from a separate bell chamber. There is a ring of just six bells, although one might have expected at least 8 in a church of this size. As it is, even the 6th bell was not added until the 1930s. The tablet records the ringing of a peal of Bob Minor on December 3rd 1951. To qualify as a peal, at least 5000 different changes (permutations of all the bells) must be rung. With six bells, the maximum number of changes is a mere 720, so this peal included seven different extents to qualify with a total of 5040 changes. The word 'Minor' indicates that 6 bells are involved, and has no connection with major and minor musical scales. |
