| Description |
English: Peacock Place, Cotmanhay. Peacock Place is off Church Street at the northern end of Ilkeston. At one time this was on the very northern edge of the town but then a large council estate (see the houses in the background) was built on farmland to the boundary of Cotmanhay Wood. Many of the houses are now privately owned but from the style of their construction I would hazard a guess that they were built between the two World Wars. They were certainly not there in 1897 and are not shown on the OS map of that year but a pub called the "Peacock Inn" was. A pub of the same name although not the original building still stands on the same site. |
