Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On the left-hand side, you can see the Sally Port Area, this is two doors that are can shut and lock prevent any unwanted visitors, while the murky water prevents people from just climbing over the large and thick walls containing many passageways and operational space for defense. On the right-hand side, you can see holes in the wall. Each hole represents one of the many canons that would be pushed out and pivoted approximately 110 degrees. Each canon would have been fired very fast with a 4 man team to load and fire each canon. On top of the corner (located in the center of the picture) provides a canon that can be rotated almost completely in a circle that shoots 10 lbs of gun powder. This is place provides a tour and demonstration of shooting on of the still operational canon using only 1 lb of gun powder.

Despite this place being very large this is only a fraction of the prison area, this is the center of it all as it provides a chow hall for feeding many of the people that worked on this island as well as a water collection system that is underground that collected rainwater from the walls' top having grass to filter and clean the rainwater collected. This place also had a blacksmith area and a very well built support structure to handle the many canons firing all the same time and not disturbing the structure by providing air shafts and vertical slots in the way for the air pressure to pass.

None of the people that were firing or operating any of theses weapons or defending the part of the island slept in this building, they would sleep in a barn-like structure with shelves for bedding for them to sleep on. (Here it is located a few hundred feet to the left on a stone walkway). The only people that were able to have residency within the walls were some of the maids, cooks, commanders and all of the essential people to keep the structure in order, but not the people they need to protect or operate the weapons (odd).

This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. Its reference number is 71000226.
