Description
English: Hurricane Sandy lifted and twisted this water control structure at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, on Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Damages to the pipe under the levee will require removal and complete replacement of the water control structure. The South Pond water control structure was constructed in 1993. The replacement contract is underway now, and should be completed in early 2015. Pea Island NWR was established in 1938 as refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife.
