| Description |
English: Built in 1929, this Art Deco-style skyscraper was designed by Clayton Lappley for contractor Raymond Shoemaker and developer Frank Payne as an office building. The 13-story building features a cream brick exterior, stone trim, vertical pilasters between the building’s window bays, one-over-one double-hung windows, an octagonal rooftop penthouse with a copper hipped roof, corner pilasters, decorative trim, and small window openings, a built-up parapet cap, a first floor clad in stone with decorative trim elements, and stone sills at the window openings. The building was among the tallest in Harrisburg when it was built in the 1920s, but today is dwarfed by more modern skyscrapers just to the south in the portion of Downtown Harrisburg that experienced heavy urban renewal. |
