an immense quantity of water while they are in blossom.Pelargoniums and Calceolarias, which are beginning to show for bloom, ought to be well watered,and placed in larger pots if they requixe it. Great care must be exercised in potting, or otherwisetending them, that sudden checks are not given to their advancement, since these would effectuallyhinder them from flowering finely. Water must be administered largely to tall and bloomingCacti at this season ; and the dwarf sorts, such as Echinocactus and its allies, may, about themiddle of the month, be put into a hotbed frame for the summer. Shoots of greenhouse and stove plants requiring to be multiplied will form excellent cuttingsat the present time ; and it is, altogether, the most eligible period for propagating such plants.A slight heat, a confined atmosphere, with a command over its conditions, and some degree ofshade, are the principal things to be provided. Generic Character.—Sfi^^a?* spreading, nearly equal.Petals similar to the sepals, or narrower, rarely broader,spreading or reflexed. Lahellum with its margins en-tirely or partially connate with the column ; limb entireor divided; disc often fleshy, ribbed or tubercled, occa-sionally prolonged into a spur. Cohimn elongated, witha marginate clinandrum, sometimes fimbriated. An-thers fleshy, two to four celled. Pollen-masses four. Specific Character.—Plant epiphytal. Pseudo-bulbsroundish-ovate, two-leaved. Leaves oblong-linear, erect.Scape panicled, scabrous. Sepals and petals almostequal, leathery, obovate-lanceolate. Lip with its sidelobes oblong, erect, obtuse, recurved at the points;middle lobe larger, membranaceous, roundish, undu-lated, emarginate, with two elevated plates at the base
