upper side of which is of a bright green tint, while beneath it is a rich purple. The flowers are large ; not disposed in flatregular heads, but occupying various positions, at difi^erent heights. They ai-e ofa deep, rich, brilliant blue colour, which cannot well be given in any drawing. Mr. Webber informs us, that on a specimen which was lately in bloom, thecontrast caused by the light green and pale purple of the leaves, and the dazzlingtint of the blossoms, rendered it very striking and attractive. The culture of these plants is exceedingly simple. The specimens should bedivided in autumn, and the divisions potted into small pots of any enriched loamyearth, shifting them repeatedly as they grow, and watering them with greaterprofusion as the spring advances. Preservation from frost is all they require inwinter ; and after they have ceased flowering in spring, they may be kept torpid(or nearly so) through the summer in a cold and partially shaded place, whererain cannot reach them. i
