Description

Paus Benedictus XVI liet ale eerste paus de tiara weg uit zijn wapen. Hij voert een eenvoudige mijter als bekroning en voegde als eerste der pausen een pallium aan het wapen toe. Dat betekent dat er wel een motto onder het wapen kàn staan maar dat het hraldisch evenwicht dan zoek raakt. De kleur van de kruisen op het pallium is bijna altijd zwart. Maakt deze paus, op de mij bekende tekeningen zijn ze rood, aanspraak op een afwijkend pallium met rode kruizen? Dat zou een betreurenswaardig nieuwtje zijn omdat het pallium de eenheid van de regerende aartsbisschoppen symboliseert. De kleur en de preciese uitvoering, van de twee linten die aan de achterzijde van de tiara afhangen is heraldisch zonder betekenis.
