Nederlands: Het terrein van de in 1050 gestichte abdij van Sint Paulus was door een muur van de buitenwereld afgesloten. Alleen door de poorten kon het abdijterrein betreden worden. De oorspronkelijke poort lag ter hoogte van het huidige toegangshek aan de Hamburgerstraat. In de 16e eeuw werd recht tegenover de Lange Nieuwstraat een nieuwe poort gebouwd. Na het opheffen van de abdij in 1580 legde de stad in 1619 de Korte Nieuwstraat over het abdij-terrein aan. De poort werd pas in 1838 gesloopt tijdens de verbouwing van het toenmalige gerechtsgebouw. De plaats van de poort is in het plaveisel aangegeven.
English: The site of Saint Paul's Abbey, founded in 1050, was closed off from the outside world by a wall. It was only through the gates that the abbey grounds could be entered. The original gate was at the height of the current entrance gate on Hamburgerstraat. In the 16th century, a new gate was built directly opposite the Lange Nieuwstraat. After the abolition of the abbey in 1580, the city built Korte Nieuwstraat over the abbey site in 1619. The gate was only demolished in 1838 during the renovation of the then courthouse.
