Deutsch: Conradin von Schwaben und Friedrich von Baden beim Schachspiel. Die Darstellung illustriert eine Szene aus Johann Jakob Bodmers Gedicht "Conradin von Schwaben". Conradin, Herzog von Schwaben, geriet nach der Schlacht von Tagliacozzo im Jahr 1268 gemeinsam mit seinem Freund Friedrich von Baden in die Gefangenschaft des Herzogs von Anjou. Dargestellt ist der Moment in dem die beiden Gefangenen gerade von ihrer Verurteilung zum Tode erfahren haben. Während Conradin Haltung bewahrt und Stärke demonstriert, wird bei Friedrich von Baden die Verzweiflung deutlich.
