Description
English: Paul-Berndt-Halde is a spoil bank for waste rock and coal flotation tailings of the Queen-Carola-Colliery (1872—1959) in Doehlen (Freital), which was renamed into Paul-Berndt-Colliery (1948—1959). Dead rock is pyrite (FeS2) which caught fire itself and set on fire the flotation tailings of the coal washer. The extent of the conflagration in early 2014 was unexpected for the experts. To fight the fire, water was sprayed, and caused the white vapour beneath the fumes.
Deutsch: Paul-Berndt-Halde für "Berge" (taubes Gestein) des Königin-Carola-Schachtes (1872—1959) und Waschberge der Döhlener Kohlenwäsche in Döhlen (Freital). Nach Überführung ins Volkseigentum wurde der Carolaschacht in Paul-Berndt-Grube umbenannt (1948—1959). Der als taubes Gestein abgelagerte Pyrit (FeS2) entzündete sich zuerst selbst und dann die auf der Halde abgesetzten Klarkohlenreste. Das Ausmaß des Feuerausbruchs Anfang 2014 überraschte auch die Fachleute. Löschwasser wurde versprüht, und verursachte den weißen Dampf unterhalb der Rauchwolke.
