Rev. Patrick Hennessy Dead. Rev. Patrick Hennessy, pastor of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City, died on Thursday, February 27th, at the Rectory, Bramhalt avenue. The reverend gentleman had been stricken with paralysis, last November, when he was compelled to retire from active parochial duty. A second attack occurred about two weeks ago, under which the patient sunk into a torper, which continued till his death. Father Hennessy was horn in the County Limerick, Ireland, in 1834, and came to this country with his parents when he was fourteen years old. He studied for the priesthood in Mount St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, and was graduated with high honors. Ho completed his ecclesiastical education at the American College, Rome ; was ordained by Cardinal Paitrizzi, and after spending a short period as Assistant in Elizabeth and Jersey City, was assigned, in 1886, to Elizabethport, where he quickly built up t he flourishing church and parish of St. Patrick. From thence he was transferred, as pastor, to St. Patrick's parish, Jersey City, where he speedily erected the- splendid church, on Bramhall and Ocean avenues, which remains a lasting monument of his zeal and effective work as a pastor. Father Hennessy was an earnest advocate of the Temperance cause. and was one of the foremost workers in starting the present Catholic National organization. He was a well-read Irish scholar and took a deep interest in the movement for the preservation of the Irish Language. His death is sincerely regretted by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance, for, personally, he was a most amiable and warm-hearted man. who attracted the esteem of those with whom ho came in contact, the better they came to know him. The obsequies of the deceased pastor will take place on Monday, March 2d, at 10 o'clock a. m., at St. Patrick's Church, Bramhall and Ocean avenues, where Solemn Office and Mass of Requiem will be celebrated for the repose of his soul. slay he rest in peace.
