Summary
[edit]DescriptionPath up Ben More. - geograph.org.uk - 55201.jpg |
English: Path up Ben More. A mystery solved. The hills over 914m is Scotland have suffered footpath scarring in the last 20 years, yet Ben More, popular for the last 100 years shows a pristine face towards Crianlarich. The answer is that unlike the idiots of today a previous generation made zigzag paths up hills. Water could drain off easily. This path means that the fearsome looking 1000m climb from Benmore Farm is actually an easy 2.5 hour walk.
There are not enough walkers to erode the hills of Scotland, yet terrible scarring is now a reality on the "Munro" listed hills. It's water that does the damage. A little care, and ignoring the new scarred "straight up the fall line" paths will go a long way to keeping the hills in good shape. Just zigzag, your knees will love you for it. |
