Description
English: The famous Bhimsen temple in the Patan Durbar complex, a historical site in Lalitpur district. This Bhimsen temple is located on the north side of the Vishwanath temple, i.e. near the Mani mandapa or Sorha Khutte Pati. This pagoda style temple is very artistic and attractive. On the second floor of this temple, there is an idol of a castle standing with one hand raised and sword in hand. Along with this idol, there is also a statue of Draupadi, the power of Panchpandava. This idol was built during the time of Shri Niwas Malla. Brother Bhimsen of Panchpandava is considered to be very strong. For this reason, when departing for war, one seeks Bhimsen and wishes for power. Merchants from the Newari community, in particular, keep pictures of Bhimsen's statues in shops for trade and profit. In this temple, there is a tradition of holding a procession on the day after Krishtashtami by placing the idol of Bhimsen on the bed. According to the Devmala genealogy, the idol of Bhimsen used to be made of clay and after it was destroyed, King Yoga Narendra Malla made Koti Hom on 811 Magh Shukla Ekadashi. They even set up a procession. When Singhpratap's death was stopped in 1834 BS, you disregarded me. If you do not believe my influence, when you are instructed not to travel till you fall on the idol of the flower procession offered during worship, then the Acharyas started the journey with guthi. The journey of this Bhimsen is in traditional style. An old wooden statue is placed on the Khat. There is a belief that this procession brings happiness, prosperity, peace and strength. The midnight procession is believed to have started in the 15th century. The temple also has idols of various other deities. The temple was completely damaged by the catastrophic earthquake of 2072 BS. The temple has only recently been rebuilt and construction work is still running.
