Description
Polski: Schemat ukazujący procesy fizyczne w górnym płaszczu Ziemi, które powodują powstawanie magmy. Przypadki A – D ukazują różne sytuacje występujące w tektonice. Wykresy ukazują geotermę (linię przebiegu zmian temperatury wewnątrz Ziemi, czerwoną) i temperaturę solidusa (powyżej której skały zaczynają się topić, zieloną). Magma powstaje wskutek częściowego stopienia skał tam, gdzie czerwona linia przekracza zieloną.

A) krzywe się nie przecinają – nie powstaje magma
B) pod grzbietami śródoceanicznymi magma tworzy się na niewielkich głębokościach, ze względu na wysokie temperatury i bardzo cienką litosferę
C) ponad pióropuszami płaszcza magma powstaje na większej głębokości, ze względu na wyższe temperatury, przy grubszej warstwie litosfery

D) ponad subdukującą płytą magma tworzy się na dużej głębokości, ze względu na obniżenie temperatury solidusa przez płyny uwolnione z płyty
