English: The current Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo was the scene of great historical events since the transfer of the Portuguese royal family and their court to Brazil, which occurred due to the Napoleonic invasion of Portugal in 1807. The building's rococo architecture helped to beautify the celebration of numerous notable events, among which can be highlighted:
- The consecration of D. João VI (1818), king of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarves. - The reception of D. Leopoldina, princess of Austria and wife of D. Pedro I. - The coronation of D. Pedro I (1822) and D. Pedro II (1840), emperors of Brazil. - Princess Isabel's marriage to Gastão de Orléans, Count d'Eu.
