Part of old KVOS TV transmitter on top of Mount Constitution on Orcas Island. I rode my bike up there, to almost 3,000ft elevation gain. What used to be the KVOS transmitter building is now a small museum. Open only when volunteers are available. I lucked out, it was open. KVOS has a new tower on another part of the mountain. Now I am back in Bellingham at my home computer after the first part of my travels. The view from Constitution was spectacular. More photos are on their way. Line of sight light waves and signals reach lots of territory from up there. Ironically, I've never really watched KVOS. Even though it's a Bellingham station, it has little about Bellingham. Now days, it's the local outlet for Me TV; a network for old shows. Digital channel 12. They moved their transmitting facility to just outside the park, in 2009, when broadcast TV went digital in the USA. Also pictured on right side, old beacon light from top of tower. |
