Description
English: "Parson Chowne and Sally's Young Man" illustration in Baring-Gould, Rev. Sabine, Old Country Life, London, 1890, Chapter 6. Parson Chowne is a character in The Maid of Skerne (1872) by R.D. Blackmore, based on the real life Rev John Froude II (1777-1852) of Knowstone and East Anstey, both in Devon, vicar of Molland-cum-Knowstone, in Devon, was an extreme example of the "hunting parson" [1]
