English: One of the main monuments of the city of Murcia, not only for its architecture but for its valuable artistic heritage, with major works within the altarpiece, sculpture and silverware. Its historical importance is manifested in its antiquity and have been the main building of one of the most central districts of Murcia, where noble families lived Murcia in palaces and mansions of St. Nicholas Street.
The parish church of St. Nicholas is an exceptional case in terms of funding, due mostly to the doctor Murcia D. Diego Mateo Zapata. It is a clear example of the architectural trend toward a style that alternated geometric effects with plastic forms, visible on the pilasters, at the top, in the high altar and the two facades. The design of the altar reminds the main body of the facade of the Cathedral. In 1742 it hired the services of Jose Perez to complete the church. |
