Description

O monumento a José Afonso é uma peça escultórica, implantada no Parque Municipal José Afonso, junto à Praceta do Coreto. Da autoria do Mestre Lagoa Henriques, outra grande figura da Cultura Nacional, que quis retractar o poeta e político seu amigo num "monumento de homenagem com expressão simbólica". O escultor ofereceu o seu trabalho, associando-se à campanha de solidariedade, e fê-lo, diz, "com muito amor". A escultura, em pedra e bronze, adquirida por subscrição pública, e composta por dois troncos entrelaçados, uma árvore de troncos cortados onde rebenta nova folhagem, e pela figura de José Afonso, acompanhado de uma lira e de duas pombas. "É a primavera da esperança, a árvore da liberdade", a "lira refere-se à condição de poeta intemporal que é o José Afonso". O artista pretende que esta escultura seja também um "monumento à palavra" e, por isso, mandou gravar na pedra as seguintes palavras do poeta, "acima de tudo é preciso agitar, não ficar parado, ter coragem, quer se trate de música ou de política. <a href="http://www.orio.pt/modules/xt_conteudo/index.php?id=10" rel="nofollow">www.orio.pt/modules/xt_conteudo/index.php?id=10</a>
