[edit]DescriptionParker Fagrelius working on ProtoDESI (xBD201606-00198-15 CC).jpg |
English: ProtoDESI is a pathfinding instrument for the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument. DESI is a multi-fiber spectrograph installed on the 4-meter Mayall telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory to explore the nature of dark energy. DESI aims to determine whether the accelerating expansion of the Universe is consistent with a cosmological constant, measure any time evolution of the Dark Energy, and search for any failures of general relativity. The 4-pinhole fiducials will enable ProtoDESI to precisely move fiber positioners to collect light from astronomical objects. |
