A platform, ar.^ht of steps, a stout lady, with corkscrew ringlets and in a flamingyellow dress, sitting at the pay-table, which was covered withcrimson baize, and flanked by a huge looking-glass—cracked, ofcourse. To the right and the left of the entrance, pictures—dimensions colossal, vehicle oil. Style, Grand Smudge. Nameof artist, presumably, Bapin de la Daube. Subjects on one side,the Cuirassiers of Beichshoffen demolishing the Prussians, andthe Interior of an Eastern Harem. On the other side, Venusrising from the Sea, and the Destruction of Herculaneum. Butwhat was there inside ?
