(ALAIS. ^6. Route. 449 which leads from the town over the dunes to the Casino (PI. A, 2;adni. ^/^-l fr.), with a fine sandy beach (baths, see p. 448). Returning by the Av. du Casino over the Old Harbour, we followthe Boul. International in the direction of the Lighthouse (PL C, 3);on the left lies the Courgain, a picturesque fishermens quarter,with the Minck (PL C, 3), where fish is sold by auction. The old Hotel de Ville (PL B, C, 3), in the Place dArmes, waserected in 1740 (tower of 15th cent.). In front it is adorned withsmall busts (1636) of Richelieu, the founder of the citadel and thearsenal, and the Due de Guise, liberateur de Calais en 1558. Itcontains a small Musee of paintings, antiquities, and natural history(adm. free on Sun., Thurs., and holidays, 11 to 4 or 5; on otherdays, exc. Sat., 2 to 4).
