English: WIPO Director General Daren Tang (right) received on November 25, 2022, Paraguay's instruments of accession to the Nairobi Treaty and Vienna Agreement from Joel Talavera, National Director, National Directorate of Intellectual Property (DINAPI) of Paraguay.
Paraguay becomes the 55th contracting party to the Nairobi Treaty. All States party to the Nairobi Treaty are under the obligation to protect the Olympic symbol – five interlaced rings – against use for commercial purposes (in advertisements, on goods, as a mark, etc.) without the authorization of the International Olympic Committee. And, as a member of the Vienna Agreement, Paraguay will join international efforts for marks that consist of, or contain, figurative elements, making it easier for brand owners to obtain protection for their marks.
