Summary
[edit]DescriptionParadise Dock,Lea Bridge E5.jpg |
English: Building work progressing nicely, July 18 2008. Soon the restored factory will disappear from view at this vantage point, the new cast iron bridge over the dock entrance installed in 1853.
The Paradise conncection has obviously been rediscovered by the developer as a way of selling the site better than Lea Bridge would do. And what's wrong with that? I might have chosen OTV myself. Fortunately there is some recent archive material available www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=12967 The writer of this piece has taken some brilliant archive photos showing the original cast iron windows of the carbonic acid factory (for comparison, see e.g. Stretham Engine near Ely) plus the interesting concrete framed, wedge-shaped OTV building, since demolished. A Paradise Cottage stood here in the early 1800s but the 1868 OS map shows this as Ashpitals Dock, only becoming Lea Bridge Dock on the 1894 map. |
