Description Introduced, cool season, annual, glaucous or subglaucous herb to 1 m or more tall. Basal leaves form rosettes and are to 12 cm long, slightly lobed, cordate, glaucous or sub-glaucous. Stem leaves are sessile and stem clasping. Flowers are solitary; the peduncle is hairy or sparsely hairy. Petals 4, 4–8 cm long and pink with a purple spot at the base. Fruit are capsules 15–50 mm wide, dehiscing by pores or indehiscent and with 7–9 stigmatic rays. Flowering is in winter and spring. A native of Asia and Europe, weedy forms are widespread in disturbed areas such as roadsides and wasteland.
