Title |
Papal bulla (placeholder image) |
||
Description |
English: An almost complete lead papal bulla dating to the papacy of Alexander V (AD 1409-1410) or possibly Alexander VI (AD 1492-1503).
The bulla is vertically cracked on the obverse along the line of the cord-hole, but the break has not extended onto the reverse face. There is a significant degree of wear or possibly an old break on the bottom cord-hole, while both faces are worn and illegible in places. On the obverse is the inscription most likely to be of Alexander V, and on the reverse are the busts of Saints Peter and Paul which are often featured on papal bullae. Obverse: ALE[X]/ANDE[R]/・PP V Reverse: [SPAS]P[E] |
