| Description |
Français : Médecin par vocation et par tradition familiale, presque par devoir civique, Georges Clemenceau, né en Vendée en 1841, vient achever ses études à Paris par un internat. Après un voyage en Amérique, il ouvre ici un modeste dispensaire, malgré ses responsabilités politiques croissantes, il y exerce jusqu'en 1906. Précurseur de la médecine du travail, il s'attaque à l'utilisation industrielle de produits toxiques pour les ouvriers, telle la céruse, et s'intéresse de très près aux questions sociales et à l'hygiène, ses domaines de prédilection au Conseil municipal de Paris. Elu maire du XVIIIe arrondissement au lendemain du 4 septembre 1870, il tente vainement de convaincre le général Lecomte de renoncer à l'enlèvement des canons de la Butte, à l'aube du 18 mars 1871. |
