Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Situated at 4350 m asl northeast of Leh, Pangong Tso is 144 kms long and 5-6 kms wide, surrounded on one side by the Chushul and Pangong Range, and Changchenmo Range to the north. It is bisected by the international border between India and China. The mirror-calm water is cold, clear, and extremely salty, holding sufficient quantity of lime to form a calcareous deposit, which cements the pebbles together in patches of concrete on its bank. The water sparkles in distinct shades of blue, green, purple, and violet, being transparent to a good depth. The lake's southern shore are the summer homes of a scanty population of Chang-pa, the nomadic herds people of Tibet and south-east Ladakh.
