English: This photo shows travertine terraces in Pamukkale, Turkey. For many thousands of years, water saturated with minerals has left behind a precipitate of calcium salts, mainly from calcium carbonate, thereby forming unusual stepped geological forms. Recently, due to climate change, precipitation in this region has decreased, which caused many travertines to dry up. The necessary streams of water were transported to a nearby village, so many of today's tourists walk on the water that gets into the houses of local residents.
Eesti: Sellel fotol on Türgis Pamukkale travertiiniterrassid. Paljude tuhandete aastate jooksul on mineraalidega küllastunud vesi endast maha jätnud peamiselt kaltsiumkarbonaadist pärineva kaltsiumisoolade sadet, moodustades seeläbi ebatavalisi astmelisi geoloogilisi vorme. Viimasel ajal on kliimamuutuste tõttu sademed selles piirkonnas vähenenud, mistõttu paljud travertiinid kuivasid. Vajalikud veejoad veeti lähedalasuvasse külla, nii et paljud tänapäeva turistid kõnnivad vee peal, mis satub kohalike elanike majja. |
