Description
English: Pamukkale, Southwest-Turkey. An Enormous volume of warm water of a chain of thermal springs is forced by an impermeable rock layer to emerge at 350m. On part of the tablelike rock and on its escarpment, downsloping ca. 80m, cascades of almost pure white calcareous sinter form a terrace of ca. 1100x400m. Where cascades are steep, the hardening sinter sediments are overthrowing, thus forming caves. The sediments are Paleozoic marbles and limestone of Mesozoic strata.
Deutsch: Pamukkale, Südwest-Türkei. Auf einer ausgedehnten plateauähnlichen Schichtstufe entspringen große Thermalquellen. Eine Kaskade zahlreicher Becken fast reinen Kalksinters, aus Karbongesteinen des Paläozoikum und des Mesozoikum, bilden eine wuchtige Terrasse von ca. 1100x400m, die 80m hinab zur fruchtbaren Ebene reicht. An Steilstufen der Kaskaden hat die Übergussschichtung der Kalksintersedimente geschlossene und offene Primärhöhlen gebildet.
