To the E. of this hill is the mouth of a preci-pitous wadi, which, however, we do not ascend. We turn more tothe left, following the slope of the hill, and then mount (10 min.) bya steep path. This leads to (I/4 hr.) a small valley which we followtowards the N., past a spring calleil Bir Abu Yeiseh, to (10 min.)Ydfd, a village on the road from Haifa to Nazareth (p. 238). The village of Jfain may be visited by making a slight digression(40 min.) from Sulem. We follow at first the direct road to Nazarethabove described, and then, after 35 min., diverge from it to the left. The road skirts the base of the hill and soon reaches (1/2 hr.) Nain, a smallvillage famed as the scene of the raising of the widows son (Luke vii.11-15). The village consists of wretched clay huts. Near it are rock-tombs and a Franciscan chapel.
