Rue du Tribunal

Palais de Justice

Palais de Justice et Tribunal de Commerce de Beaune

History : The decree of 28 August 1790 abolished the bailliages and instituted a civil court in their stead. In Beaune, the latter sat for a long time in the former parliament. In 1811, the architect Caristie Aîné was entrusted with a project (not realized) of building assembling court and prison at the site of the Carmelite convent. Finally, the prison was built in 1851 in the gardens of the former convent. In 1857, the Palais de Justice was set up opposite by the entrepreneur Beaunois Bourgouin-Jamain, on the plans and specifications of the architect of the Côte-d'Or, Jean-Philippe Switzerland. The Civil Court of Beaune functioned until 1959, when a Tribunal de Grande Instance was set up in Dijon. In 1960, the Commercial Court left the old chapel of the Oratory and moved to the left side of the courthouse. Address : 2 rue du Tribunal
