Title
Palaeolithic handaxe
Description
English: Palaeolithic cordate flint hand axe. The axe is uniface, roughly D-shaped in cross-section and covered with a thick chalk-coloured patina. Where recent damage has occured to the edges, a mottled dark brown flint can be seen. The butt end (proximal) of the axe retains a thicker band of chalk-coloured patina, which may in fact be cortex or recortification. The opposite end (distal) has an incomplete tip, which was broken in antiquity. There are a number of medium sized flakes removed from the ventral surface, and two or three larger ones removed from the dorsal.
