Title |
Palaeolithic Handaxe |
||
Description |
English: An Acheulian cortical handaxe (Lower Palaeolithic), with a shape very suggestive of a ficron form. Almost the entire surface of both faces is covered in an orange-red patina, but where hints of the original flint are visible, one can estimate its hue to be of a dark grey shade. The left side of the implement is beautifully regular, with clear removal marks and a straight cutting edge, while the other is far less regular, with a large bulge protruding outwards from the previously straight and regular edge. There is an area of seemingly unworked surface at the butt end, possibly an aid to holding. The flint is in good condition, with little recent scarring visible. |
