Summary
[edit]DescriptionPage from the Arthurian Romances illuminated manuscript.jpg |
English: Page from the Arthurian Romances, a medieval illuminated manuscript written in northern France at the end of the 13th century. The book, written on parchment by one scribe, shows scenes of animals, musicians, jesters and archers. According to curators at Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, "The decoration of this lavishly illuminated manuscript consists of seventy-seven large column miniatures, fifty-one smaller miniatures, and thirty-six historiated initials. The miniatures and historiated initials are by at least two artists, the scale and quality of whose work distinguish the manuscript from contemporary and most fourteenth- century Arthurian manuscripts."
