Title
Padlock
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy Medieval barrel padlock case dating to the 12th or 13th Century. The case is a short round cylinder with a broad, flat, upright arm extending from the top at one end. The attached bar has been broken off. The flat arm is pierced with a circular hole at its base. The case has a T shaped key hole at the end by the bar and the other end shows the internal structure as having a vertical, diving slat down the centre, suggesting that the bolt had two spring mechanisms. The other part of the padlock which would be locked in place the sprung parts are missing. See also Egan (1998) and PAS record ID: SWYOR-1E1325.
