Summary
[edit]DescriptionPaddock Road, Bond Hill, Cincinnati, OH (27226381957).jpg | Bond Hill may have historic Victorian-era homes at its core, but much of the neighborhood was developed in the 1920s and 1930s, a time in which the Tudor Revival style was especially popular in Cincinnati. These homes aren't in the Old Bond Hill Historic District, but are eligible at this point nonetheless for historic designation and protection. Tudor Revival houses like these were built throughout Cincinnati in the interwar period, with the large concentrations being in Paddock Hills, West Price Hill, Bond Hill, Covedale, Clifton, Mariemont, and Hyde Park. These homes may have become popular due to overseas experience of soldiers fighting in Europe during World War I and becoming enamored with the style, but I'm not entirely sure exactly what the root cause of their sudden rise to popularity in the period can be attributed to. The Tudor Revival style of these homes can range from simple brick or stone facades to large expanses of timber framed stucco with ornamental rustic stonework dancing across the facade. The very last house, however, is an example of an inappropriately modified Tudor Revival-style house, where the timber framed facade above the doorway was covered in Vinyl Siding to cover up the building's true identity. Today, many of these homes remain desirable and in relatively good shape, and make for quaint streets and beautiful neighborhoods. They should be protected and preserved, as they are vital to the rich historic landscape of the city. |
