There will be a large amount ofdifficult excavation for the foundation andabout 50,000 cubic yards of concrete will berequired for the construction of this dam.The reservoir created by the raising of thewaters will be of 2,000 acre feet capacityand will serve as an afterbay for Pit No.Three as well as a forebay for Pit No.Four. Thistemporary dam is of rock-crib construction. Theflume leading from thiswill be 11 feet deep and24 feet wide, sufficient tocarry a volume of 3500second feet of water, morethan the usual flow of theriver between May 1stand December 1st. Thetemporary dam is located500 feet up-stream fromthe permanent dam site.The temporary diversionflume will be about 1600 feet in length, itslower end being about 900 feet below thetoe of the permanent dam. The entrance to the tunnel will belocated 100 feet up-stream from the per-manent dam. It will be 23,782 feet inlength, 19 feet in diameter, of 3000 secondfeet capacity, and can be driven from fourheadings.
