Heartswere getting lighter andstomachs also as theyrode, half-carried by thewind, down the side ofNigger Head Mountain onthe last lap of the twelvemiles. Now all was smooth sailing and facesagain took on a cheery smile as theythought of the meal thej^ would havewhen they reached Blue Lakes. A wildbark of a dog, and then in the distancecould be seen the gable of Lake View, thehome of Bill the Trapper. But thesnowstorm was on in full blast and a more welcome person was never seenthan was Bill, who stood in the door try-ing to ascertain at what Lady wasbarking. Snowshoes unstrapped, allclambered into the house, and Bill, whohad been lonesome listening to the yell ofthe wild coyote for long days and nights,soon had roasted duck with oyster dress-
