Drum District During August, EdwardMartin, Sr., father ofJames Martin, managerDrum District, passedaway after a long illness.Mr. Martin was wellknown and highly es-teemed by fellow em-ployees and friendsthroughout this district.He was born in Cornwall,England, but came toCalifornia with his fam-ily over thirty-five yearsago, making his home formany years at Nevada City, where hefollowed mining. Later he lived in ButteCounty, where he was also engaged inmining. For a number of years he was em-ployed as superintendent for a largemining company in South Africa. Since1911 he worked almost continuously forthis company as a general foreman onconstruction work on the South YubaSystem, usually in charge of tunnel work. The funeral ceremony was held atNevada City under the auspices of theOdd Fellows lodge of which he was amember. A large gathering of friendswere present.

The death of our old friend and fellowemployee, Robert Edward Linder, due toan accident which occurred on Friday,November 15th, was indeed a severe shockto all who knew him, and it is with thedeepest sorrow that we write these lines.Bob Linder was one of the companysoldest employees, having been in theSouth Yuba District since 1882. His death was caused by the accidentalexplosion of a box of electric exploderswhich he was carrying. Just how ithappened will always remain a mystery.The accident occurred near his homeand the explosion was heard for milesaround. Another member of Pacific Service,Mr. George Dixon, well known throughoutthis vicinity, died of heart failure on themorning of Augu
