early 20,000 cubic yards of siltfrom the bay each twenty-four hours. Thework of filling in is expected to be completedwithin sixty days. There is to be a 9-foot board fence aroundthe Fair site, which will be two and a halfmiles in length. Bids will be called for assoon as the City authorities close the streetson the Exposition site. The construction ofthe seawall is almost completed, more than15,000 cubic yards of stone having beenhauled to the site by the contractors. The past month has been a busy one forthe Exposition directors. Kentucky, Illinois,Pennsylvania and Arizona were added to thelist of States that have selected sites for theirbuildings. The number now has reachedfifteen. Twenty-nine other States have ap-pointed Commissioners to come to San Fran-cisco and select sites. Compared with otherexpositions this showing is considered remark-able. Japan will be the first foreign country toselect its site for a National building. Thiswill be in the latter part of the current month.
