The water wheels will work under a headof 1,370 feet and the total average supplyof water available is estimated at about 350second feet throughout the year. In selecting a site for the buildmg to housethis machinery, several features had to betaken into account. First the power houselocation depends largely on the availabilityof a suitable site for a forebay, or balancingpond, located at the end of the canal and atthe head of the pressure pipe line. This takescare of the fluctuations between water supplyand electrical load. It also insures continuityof service at any time the canal is under re-pairs. It should be probably large enoughto store water sufficient for one days run,though this is a matter open to discussion. Inthe case of the Drum development, the fore-bay will have a capacity of 400 acre feet orI 7,424,000 cubic feet, which is equivalent toa flow of 350 second feet for about I 4 hours.
