Description
English: Robert Broom's evolutionary hypothesis for the origin of mammals, updated to reflect current (2012) understanding.
Note that despite over 100 years of research and a more than tenfold increase of the fossil evidence, Broom's hypothesis is largely confirmed. His only significant error was to assume that the ancestors of mammals evolved from cotylosaurians (= Captorhinida) instead of parallel to them, resulting in his incorrect placement of the basal taxa.
