Summary

[edit]
Description

PWS492S is an extremely attractive Leyland Leopard with Plaxton Paramount bodywork. It was delivered new to the Bristol Omnibus Company in 1978 with a Plaxton Supreme coach body as 2188 and was allocated to Marlborough Street depot for use on express services. It was renumbered to 2311 in 1979 and 2098 in 1981. While operating an express service to Southsea, it caught fire on the M72 which destroyed the body. The chassis was stripped and overhauled and rebuilt in 1983 with the Plaxton Paramount body, as normally fitted to Leyland Tigers. It returned to Expresswest livery, and then used exclusively on services from Bristol to West Wales for a while. On the formation of Badgerline, it returned to the core fleet and was reregistered to VJT738 and used as a dual purpose vehicle often on hire to National Express, until withdrawal by Badgerline in 1992- the last Leopard. It then moved to Brewers of Maesteg on limited stop services, and later to Western National. After 5 years with them, it was demoted to schools/ contract and was withdrawn in 2002. It was bought out of service from Falmouth depot and was repainted into the last Badgerline coach livery that it carried. It was bought by the current owner in 2005 to be used for Badgerline Enthusiasts Group trips and displays. It was repainted with full logos in 2011.

Seen here in Weymouth sea front. I had just got off it after a most enjoyable free ride to Bowleaze Cove as part of the 2013 Weymouth Vintage Bus Rally. 16th June 2013.
