Summary
[edit]DescriptionPSM V34 D486 Head of megalosaurus.jpg |
English: Original figure caption: Head of Megalosaurus, one tenth natural size (restored by Phillips). Additional notes: This historical reconstruction which is in fact an unmodified reproduction from a book by the British geologist John Phillips (cf. p. 199 in Geology of Oxford and the valley of the Thames, Oxford 1871) contains several bad inaccuracies. The reconstruction apparently is based on a lizard skull. Lizards, however, are only relatively distantly related to dinosaurs. This is why the reconstruction lacks many features which are typical for dinosaurs, e.g. an antorbital fenestra (instead of which it has a large and quite anteriorly positioned orbita), a lower temporal bar, and a mandibular fenestra. Deutsch: Historische Schädelrekonstruktion des großen Raubdinosauriers Megalosaurus. Diese faktisch unverändert aus einem Buch des britischen Geologen John Phillips übernommene Rekonstruktion (vgl. p. 199 in Geology of Oxford and the valley of the Thames, Oxford 1871) enthält mehrere bedeutende Fehler. |
