Summary
[edit]DescriptionPRINIOLATA (3487499315).jpg | Priniolata - Carnival is usually celebrated in Catholic countries as it is part of the preparation for Lent. During carnival or carnevale which means you can eat meat and be merry, Catholics would organize masked balls, carnivals floats defiles`, and indulge in eating rich and sweet food. One of the commonest is the Priniolata which is made of sponge cake, candied fruit, almonds and other nuts, glace` cherries. All these ingredients would be mixed with mounds of sweetened egg whites which would have been previously whisked into a fluffy and sweet mixture. The result would be like a half spherical mixture which will have more of the beaten egg whites plastered on and decorated with cherries and candied fruit. It is left to set before being eaten. All this merriment and excesses which sometimes go beyond any limits would traditionally stop on Tuesday at midnight as the following day the Catholic Church celebrates Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent which prepares us for Christ’s crucifixion and his glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday. Lent is a period of fasting and for Catholics to deprive themselves of something they really like as a sign of sacrifice during the 40 days before Christ’s death on the Cross to redeem humanity. - MALTA |
