Description PR-06-CN-215-9: North African Campaign, June 1940 to May 1943. People of Gabes welcome “Monty”. General Montgomery Commander of the Victorious 8th Army, enters Gabes. The General was received by an enthusiastic population and was presented with the Colors of the Fighting French. His car was mobbed by the people eager to shake the hand of the man responsible for their deliverance from the rule of the Nazi and Fascist Military machine. Shown: French girls wearing the colors of the Fighting French, with the Bouquets they presented to General Montgomery. Courtesy of the Library of Congress. (2017/06/09).
