| Description |
English: POW Work Camp 57 New sign at the site of the Merrow Down camp. It was mainly occupied by Italian POWs, then Germans in the late 1940s. Now it is downland adjacent to Guildford Golf Club to the east, well within Merrow. It is for this reason that Pewley Down and Merrow Down are indivisible. Common rights for Merrow parishioners (people) once attached to Merrow Downs but the common status was removed on inclosure which was followed by later purchase by the Borough Council. |
